Tiger Turnaround

As promised, Week 3 brought the usual level of chaos. Let's hit the highlights, but first I headed down to Bath for a battle of unbeaten Morse and Biddeford. It's a strange matchup between a B South team and D South team, but they're only separated by 60 kids in the enrollment numbers in the bulletin (689-629) and, as Travis Lee commented on the sidelines, back when we were kids these were both Class A schools.

Times have changed.

Biddeford struck first with a deep ball from Ernest Dore to Estevao Lembissa.

They connected again after a Morse turnover, picked up a third score on this dive by Cameron Bergeron and it was 20-0 at the half.

It was all over after that.

For a team that got outscored by 206 points last year, Biddeford's 3-0 start has to feel like a godsend after 1-7. After the game, a collection of parents huddled around the Biddeford team meeting.

And when coach Steve Allosso thanked the parents for making the trip, one of the parents said "thank you for winning".

After the game, I spoke to QB Ernest Dore.

Biddeford is now in first place in a B South region where after Falmouth's win over Westbrook, I really have no idea what to think. Should be a fun thing to parse out on this week's overreactions podcast (coming Monday!)

Elsewhere

Cony improved to 3-0, this time without the late dramatics. Drew Lindquist threw 2 first half touchdowns and they held up in a shutout of Mount Blue...Greely scored the final 21 points of the game to put away Wells. Luke Piper ran for 4 scores and tossed another...Leavitt dropped 51 on York to stay perfect...Marshwood stayed perfect behind 124 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns from Greg Castoras...Lawrence continued their run in B North with a win over Skowhegan...Matt Charron accounted for 4 touchdowns in OOB's win over Telstar...Mark LaPointe accounted for 4 touchdowns in Noble's win over Sanford...SoPo rallied down 13-0 late with 3 Christopher Salamone touchdowns and a goal line stand at the buzzer to survive a Scarborough upset bid...Edward Little's week off did them no favors against Oxford Hills...Portland blew out Windham.

Or at least it will be, maybe by the time you read this.

After something like 82 rounds of arguing with the Apple app store (it's not a complicated app...), the Maine Basketball Rankings app was finally approved on Thursday morning around 9am and is finally live!

It has a couple of features: the Scoreboard, Rankings, Heal Points, and Spreads.

You'll notice there's no logos because Apple wanted paperwork on every single logo and god knows how long that would take.

You can update scores from the app, but the really nice feature is the notifications. When you get started, it'll ask you to pick your team. You'll get notifications for when your team's scores go final. That might be someone updating it as the game goes final. It might be me cleaning it up after I get home.

It will also give you notifications for the teams near you in the Heal Points and that should adjust as the season progresses. If on the image above Yarmouth separates from the pack, they'll drop off the automatic notifications. If Lincoln Academy enters the chat, they'll get added to the notifications. You can also get a summary for your region or just pick a team you want to keep an eye on, for whatever reason.

The app is $3.99/month in the App Store, but there's a code at the bottom of this email for paid subscribers that'll include it with your subscription. You can also double-dip, which I'll appreciate.

Thornton Academy is trying to do some detective work on some old game footage and figure out who exactly TA is playing. It appears to be a game at the Augusta Civic Center from before the 3-point line.

It's one of the situations of a filmmaker being in the absolute perfect place at the perfect time when a band's entirely legacy was changing.

We're going to set aside the TA/Bedford game that has a Stax Index of 94.2 for the simple reason that the Model's handling of the NH teams is really just an educated guess. But the game's a big one. They're even bringing back Cole Purvis for the occasion!

Kennebunk fell last week to Massabesic after knocking off Falmouth in Week 1 and Cheverus beat Falmouth after losing to Westbrook. And Westbrook, of course, just lost to Falmouth, so...[shrug emoji].
