Marshwood Rolls to the Top of B South

Greg Castoras runs for 3 bills as the Hawks blow out Cheverus

Marshwood Rolls to the Top of B South

For the past two seasons, we've had a surprise team run the table in Class B on their way to a championship. You know the story. Falmouth two years ago and Westbrook last year.

This year, Falmouth and Westbrook are struggling, but Marshwood and Biddeford have emerged at the top of B South. I needed to get eyes on the Hawks and a Saturday afternoon date with the Stags on the new Cheverus turf seemed like a perfect opportunity.

First off, the new Cheverus turf is really nice with a great view of the Portland skyline.

But the story of Saturday was all Marshwood. Greg Castoras broke a 51 yard TD run on the first drive of the game, scored from 3 yards out on the second drive, and Marshwood was off to the races.

Castoras dominated the Cheverus defense. It took everything they had to drag him down.

He finished with 303 yards, according to Michael Hoffer's final tally

In a region where it seems like it's anyone's to win, Marshwood looks all the part of the team to beat. They dominated the Stags from the opening kickoff and the JVs cleaned things up for a 45-6 win.

If you want a caveat, Cheverus looks more beat up than your average team on week 6, so they probably aren't as fully equipped to slow Marshwood down as they might have been during Week 1. But it would take a lot to slow down Castoras and Marshwood.

As for B South, Marshwood is now in the driver's seat for the 1 seed, but it'll all come down to the game against Kennebunk to finish the regular season.

With the new feature you can see how the Crabtrees shake out depending on who wins what. You can also use it for Heal Points.

Michael Hoffer was there.

Cheverus no match for powerhouse, unbeaten Marshwood
PORTLAND—Every week this season, Cheverus’ football team has battled to the finish. Until Saturday. When the Stags hosted undefeated Marshwood at Boulos Stadium and found themselves in an entirely different situation. A situation which saw Cheverus fall behind early and have no answers in what ultimately was a decisive

This week on the overreactions podcast, Andrew Hart of Maine High School Football joined me to do a deep dive tour of the state of the state. I knew we would go long because Andrew is just that much of a wealth of information. You know this already from his Facebook articles. He seems to remember everything and we scratched the surface of it. Plus, Andrew did a little bit of an apology tour for some of his preseason takes.

One note: we had some tech issues, so I was unable to fully edit the individual recordings and had to use the rough recording done live. So it goes.

One of the things Andrew and I talked about on the Overreactions podcast was the need for all of the data to be in one place. Obviously, the MPA's website should handle this, but we all know that's not going to happen. The website is set up for this and really the only hurdle is buy-in.

Take, for example, Greely football.

Greely has sent in all of their Hudl reports, which the site knows how to parse into usable data.

You can import your own stats. Just upload the Hudl stat report. It'll match it to your roster (assuming that's uploaded).

It's KemPom Day (well, last night was), that glorious day when the KenPom preseason rankings come out.

UMaine is 343, which is...not great.

If you haven't seen it yet, HBO Max has a documentary short on Dennis Miller's time on Monday Night Football.

Kids, back in the day Dennis Miller was a thing (this was before Norm MacDonald redefined Weekend Update) and MNF, desperate for a boost, came up with the idea to put Miller in the booth with Al Michaels. It was a crazy idea at the time and a crazy idea in retrospect and I kind of thought it worked?

Anyway, the doc is pretty good.

Miller Night Football (2026)
Chronicles comedian Dennis Miller’s unlikely arrival in the “Monday Night Football” (MNF) broadcast booth in 2000, alongside veteran sportscaster Al Michaels and former NFL quarterback Dan Fouts. Intended to reinvigorate the iconic television franchise and attract a broader audience, Miller’s addition, and his distinctly cerebral brand of humor, was met with both intrigue and skepticism across sports and television.

Let's head to the County, where the 1 seed in B North girls soccer is on the line.

John Bapst is unbeaten and rarely tested. They tied MDI early in the year on the island, then destroyed them at home a couple of weeks later, 7-0. The only other team to challenge them has been Hermon, who will likely be in the 4/5 game and already beat Presque Isle earlier this year (and tied them). But, they've done that against one of the easiest schedules in the region.

Bapst will drive north to take on Presque Isle, a team that's only lost that game to Hermon and is only +15 to Bapst's +57, but against a harder schedule.

One of these two will be the 1 seed.

And they'll play twice down the stretch, starting today. If one of them can sweep, they'll be the 1 seed. But if they split? Well then it gets interesting.

The rest of the Model's picks for today's games are after the jump.
