Diamond Finale
Let's hand out some Gold Balls in baseball and softball.
I'm scrambling to get ready for this 5K, so let's make this quick.
There's nothing quite like winning your program's first championship and you can see the pure jubilation in Marshwood's celebration last night.

It begs the question: what's the bigger joy? Is it that first title or is it title after a long drought, like the Caribou boys a couple of years ago? For the players, it's the same thing. But for a community, I wonder what it would be?
In the girls game, Freshman Makenna Seaver came up huge on the biggest stage, scoring 4 goals and Greely needed them to take out Freeport 7-4 for their 4th Gold Ball in the last 5 seasons.

We finish out the Spring Sports season today with a raft of games at 6 different locations around the state.
If you can't make it to one of the state games today, you can watch them on NFHS (I know, I know).

If you're just interested in following the scores, these have been updating in real time throughout the playoffs and I believe a couple of them will have live stats. I'll probably have live stats for the Class B games at St. Joe's.

The defending champs of class C have a new coach in assistant Dom Rossignol, who is quick to point out that they're not the same team and therefore, not technically the defending champs. But, you know, they've still got Aden Jeffers.
Cedric Derecho has an interview for WAGM.

I'm really, really sick of the Giannis/Jaylen trade rumors. I'm sure 99% of them are just websites and podcasts trolling for content and making nonsense up to generate clicks and controversy and I don't for one second think the Celtics are leaking a thing.
Having said all that, this is the dumbest rumor of them all.
The Bucks want the Celtics to add up to 3 future firsts (!!) in the deal on top of Jaylen Brown, per @sam_amick.

One of the big winners of the World Cup, other than the USMNT, has been the love affair between Boston and the Tartan Army (a.k.a. the Scottish fans who have invaded).
Somehow, Boston has run out of beer, something I didn't think was possible, and Massachusetts even "legalized" haggis, sort of.
Despite their 1-0 loss yesterday to Morocco, they Scots are having too much fun to go home.

One of the all-time greats has left us.
Jimmy Burrows, who directed over 1,000 episodes of TV, including basically every episode of Cheers and Will & Grace, passed away.
You cannot possibly overstate his impact on television.

Finally, some good news.

A lot of people have had this game circled since the beginning of the year, so I guess it's fitting to have it as the final Game of the Day.
Washington Academy led the state in point differential on the strength of ranking second in scoring offense and third in defense. Monmouth's defense was right there at 4th in the state, so this could be a low-scoring affair in Bangor

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
