Broken Records

Did the refs eliminate a team from the playoffs?

Broken Records

Oh boy.

I usually start with the Game of the Day, but we'll come back to that.

I can't remember a situation where two people–a boy and a girl–from the same school each had a shot to break the school scoring record on the same day and knowing Don Shields would be at the Oceanside/Lincoln Academy boys game, I headed over to the girls game in Newcastle. That way, both would be covered in some way and with the live stats, we'd know who got there first.

Bailey Breen had 11 quick points and 17 in the first half to get within 11 of the record as Oceanside led by 21.

Meanwhile, in Rockland:

It was still up-for-grabs as Oceanside put together a 31-11 3rd quarter to put the game out of reach, but Breen ended the quarter on the bench with foul trouble.

That gave Carter Galley time to break the record while Breen was still 7 away. Breen re-entered the game in the 4th and passed Audrey Mackie on a fast break lay-up with 4:15 to play and Oceanside promptly emptied the bench.

Breen finished with an even 30. Sophia Daggett added 19 rebounds.

Back to Rockland, where Oceanside had turned an 11-point deficit into a 63-53 lead over Lincoln Academy.

But the Eagles weren't done. They ripped of a 10-0 run to tie the game. Carter Galley scored his 23rd point of the game with 4.6 seconds to play to give Oceanside a 67-65 lead and Lincoln couldn't get off a shot. Oceanside survived.

Cohen Galley led all scorers with 32. Lucas Houghton had 20 for Lincoln Academy.

Quite the last couple of days for them.

But we're not done.

Wells and Cape needed 3 overtimes to settle things.

TJ Maines spent another game on the sidelines for Cony.

This was an interesting one, as Cony led by 18 in the 3rd quarter, but Camden battled back. Will Duke had 13 of his 25 in the 4th quarter and Nolan Ames had 23, but the rally fell short.

Suddenly, Cony has won 4 out of 5. They're 6th in A North. Parker Morin had 27 for the Rams and Parker Sergent led the way with 28. He's now 28 from 1,000 career points.

In the girls game (the Game of the Day), Camden led by 20, but Cony had a big rally of their own, only to come up a little bit short.

Camden avenges the loss on Opening Night and they move to 2nd place in A North.

As expected, Evans Sterling scored his 1,000th point.

He finished with 17.

But in the end, it was Messalonskee's night. Merrick Smith had 24 points and 11 rebounds to knock Mt. Blue from the ranks of the unbeaten and A North is officially wide-open again.

Let's go to Greely where the Rangers are tied with Brunswick in a must-win game for the Dragon. 4 seconds left. Greely ball.

YouTube won't let clips of broadcasts be embedded and I don't want to just take someone else's content without asking, so we'll hold while you go to YouTube to watch the clip.

Granted, that's not the best angle, but it sure doesn't look like a foul from there. Once again: Time & score. It's a tie game! If you blow the whistle there, the game is over. If you don't, they play overtime. So unless it's an obvious foul, put your whistle away!

Anyway, Jackson Leding hit all three free throws and Greely won by 3.

Brunswick, by the way, had a 3.7% chance to make the tournament before that call. That's going to be a wrap.

Dakota Shipley's 31 points led Brunswick past Greely. The Dragons went 19 of 22 from the free throw line...Arianna Bradeen had 25 and Savannah Lorenz added 20 in Mount View's win over Waterville...Maddie Fitzpatrick had a triple-double against Lewiston with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 steals. Natalie Beaudoin led Lewiston with 23...Sarah Theriault's 14 & 12 paced Marshwood...Breonna Dufresne had 12 & 10 and Izzy Stewart added 20 for Richmond's win over Boothbay...Tessa Ferguson's 26 wasn't enough for OOB as they lost to Monmouth. Haley HeHahn had 24 in the winning effort...Gabe Lash's 26 & 13 led Medomak Valley to their 13th win...Freeport's JT Pound dropped 35 on Massabesic...Manny Hidalgo's 28 helped SoPo stave off a Noble rally down 14 and win in overtime...Chris Simonds went off with 25 points and 21 rebounds against Marshwood...Makai Bougie's 20 got Sanford past Scarborough...Jackson Leding was fouled at the buzzer and hit all three free throws to give Greely a 3-point win over Brunswick...Gage Suitter's 22 led Morse to a win over Leavitt...Yarmouth put up 100 on Poland, led by Evan Hamm's 38...Boothbay needed all of Finn Harkins's 8 3-pointers and 35 points to upset previously unbeaten Richmond.

Take a look at Spruce Mountain's Owen Kelvey throwing it up off the backboard for sophomore(!) Cai Dougher to throw down.

In a developing story, the Falmouth football team would like a new coach, please.

Buckle up.

This was the Game of the Day once before, with Southern Aroostook winning by 12 and I don't like to repeat games, but the pickings, they are slim today.

Southern Aroostook has locked up the 1 seed in D North. They've more than doubled anyone else's Heal Points.

Hodgdon, however, is in third place in C North, just a hair behind Dexter in a very competitive region.

When the Tourney Odds come out later today, they're going to look like this.

No one has locked up a bye and it's anyone's guess how the top of this region will shake out, but a win against Southern Aroostook would go a long, long way.

The Model's predictions for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
