A basketball podcast and more
Remember last spring when it rained for like 13 straight weekends? It's just something to keep in mind as we face another stretch of mid-week rain that threatens to wipe out a day or two of games (and further muddy up the fields).
Anyway, we've got a clear slate for today. Thursday...not so much.

After a slight delay, the podcast is back!
I've actually got 3 episodes ready to go, so with a little bit of luck I can stay on a weekly schedule for a while. Maybe even all summer until fall sports kicks off!
Today's episode feature Travis Magnusson, head coach of the Maranacook boys and the 12th highest scoring player in Maine high school basketball history (according to Frank Spanky). Travis talks about the state game with Fort Kent, that epic Regional Final finish against Spruce Mountain, the AAU team he's coaching, a camp this summer at the Augusta Civic Center, and a whole lot more.
Note: there's a weird audio slip on Travis' audio that only shows up after I export and I cannot, for the life of me, fix it. I've spent 2 hours searching for the cause adn have exported it at least 6 times. I give up.
If you're wondering, I'm wearing the Maine Ballers shirt. You can get one for yourself!

If you haven't yet, make sure you subscribe to the podcast on YouTube. More to come!

You can sign up for the camp at the ACC with Paul Vachon(!!!)

One of my goals is to create a place where all the player stats can live in the same place--basketball, baseball, softball, football, and so on. It'd be great to be able to just look up a team or a region and look that up. It shouldn't be so hard to find, you know? This would be awesome for fans, for parents, for broadcasters, for journalists. For everyone, really.
To that end, you can now import a single boxscore into the database. I've tried it on GameChanger and a couple others. It should be able to parse the data on a pdf (sure, AI is going to kill the planet, but we can at least have this before the world burns).
Pick a team and it'll pull up their schedule. From there you can see if a game has already been uploaded.

Add the pdf and it'll show a preview. If a team's roster has already been loaded, it'll match based on the team and uniform number. If there's a match, it'll be green. If not, there will be a yellow tag that says new. Maybe the uniform number is wrong or they're not in the original roster. Either way, in that scenario it'll add a new player to the roster.

You can also edit any of these fields, if needed.
Once the stats are loaded in, you'll be able to see a little stat icon that shows which games are uploaded.

And if you click on that link, it'll bring up this new page, which shows a lot of game information, including the game prediction and result (spread and Win%), box score, and more.

You can also get to this page from the scoreboard if you click on the scores of a completed game (and from there you could also upload a box score).
In the queue is a larger stat page that has full stats, much like the tourney stats page. But we need stats first. Let me know if you have any issues.
The Verge has an article about writers (finally) abandoning Substack for ghost, which is what this newsletter has been on since the beginning.
A lot of people have left the platform over the years because they like to platform Nazis, but if that isn't enough (that should really be enough, but ok), turns out there's another reason: they charge you an arm and a leg.

Use ghost!
Cony's Jackson Kay is heading to Kents Hill.

We go to softball, where Brewer and Skowhegan are fighting for the 4 seed in A North.

Partly it's because of the extra game, but the Model thinks Brewer will leap-frog Edward Little and get to the three seed, but it's tight. If you look at the distribution, seeds 2-5 are essentially up for grabs with Mount Blue and Hampden hoping to play spoilers.

A big determining factor here is today's Game of the Day, which the Model has as a toss-up. That 50% is actually 50.5%.
And just look how close their profiles are. Brewer has slightly better numbers against a slightly tougher schedule, but the game's in SkowVegas, which gives the River Hawks the edge.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
