Week 5!

Look: we're required to hate this kid from the Yankees and we will, but that was one hell of a performance last night. Tip the cap.

I thought Connelly Early looked promising before his defense let him down.

Oh well. Fall is here, I guess.

As part of it, we discussed Bonny Eagle's surprising ascent to #1 in the Power Rankings. But Jay's unsure if that makes them the favorite.

Rankings are updated for soccer and field hockey. I'm sure I'm missing games as I try to get the hang of this new MPA website and figure out how to find the reported scores.

There aren't a whole lot of baseball cards with Mainers on them--I have a Billy Swift '88 Topps card in a shoebox somewhere--and I'm quite certain they haven't put any Mainers on the box.

Game of the Day

Well this is a pretty easy call. Thornton Academy, viewed by many as the best team in the state, heads to Fitzy to challenge the defending champs.

Michael Hoffer has it as his Game of the Week. Varsity Maine does as well.

HHSS Game of the Week

Each Wednesday, we’ll zero in on one of the big upcoming matchups and do a deep dive on that contest. This week’s Game of the Week features a rematch of last year’s Class A state football final, as 3-1 Thornton Academy goes to 4-0 Portland, Friday at 6 p.m.

The Model has TA dropping to 4th this week. The New Hampshire game makes it tricky, because I'm not adding all of New Hampshire football to the Model. Not much separates the top 5. It's mostly a question of what the teams you've played have done in the other games.

It's pretty hard to argue against Bonny Eagle.

Anyway, Connor Ayoob and the Trojans will head to Fitzy to take on the Fitzy front-runner in Cordell Jones, Portland's record-breaking, defending Gatorade POTY.

I'll be there and I'm assuming I won't be alone on the sidelines. WHOU will have Rob Kennedy and Jarod Richmond on the call.

Portland will be playing with a heavy heart.

The Model says Portland by 12. That's way too high.
