Friday's Game of the Day got pushed to Saturday--a beautiful, if windy, day and kind of first really nice day of the Spring. If you've been reading this newsletter long enough, you know that I'll head to the Game of the Day if it's within 45 minutes or so of my house, so Leavitt @ Medomak was a no-brainer.

The wind was blowing in, which made things...adventurous...for Leavitt's right fielder Mallory Cunningham. A couple of fly balls got above the tree line and really started to move on her, but she kept making plays. On the other side, Medomak's ace Sidney Nicholls got your standard 8-3 double play and through 6 and a half had faced one more than the minimum. It was 1-0 Medomak and the Game of the Day had lived up to the hype.

Then in the bottom of the 6th, Peyon Eaton reached on an error and Arianna Sproul hit a line drive the wind couldn't knock down before it found the trees to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Nicholls finished off the no-hitter (she added 13Ks) and Medomak put themselves in the driver's seat for the 1 seed in B South, but Leavitt will get a rematch on their field on May 29th.

Hopefully this works. It was being buggy last night.

Yesterday was the first-ever MPA sanctioned sporting events held on a Sunday, as tennis got pushed thanks to last week's rain.

This is a new thing that's been in talks for a while. Last year, a vote passed to allow Sunday postseason games in extenuating circumstances. You might remember a couple of years ago when we got absolutely hammered with snow during Tourney Week and there were a lot of discussions about how to reschedule games. There was all sorts of options proposed, but we couldn't go to Sunday, even though Sunday made the most sense. In the end, the B State Games were held at the Expo (remember that?) where Ellsworth held off a late rally from Spruce Mountain and Orono beat Oceanside.

I don't know if that was the impetus to make this move possible, but it didn't hurt.

And now, the precedent has been set. So if we get another Saturday blizzard, expect Sunday to be in play.

Maine high school postseason sporting events can finally be held on Sundays
The MPA has scheduled its first-ever Sunday event for this weekend when 18 matches will be held at the state tennis championships at Bates College.

You might have seen this making the rounds, but the Joe Mazzulla's brother went a little bit viral for his, uh, approach to the media in a mid-game interview.

How much would you pay to be a fly on the wall of that Thanksgiving dinner? I have so many questions about how that family functions.

We're back in softball for the Game of the Day with another battle of top 5 teams, this time it's Edward Little heading to Oxford Hills for an A North battle. In today's rankings, Oxford Hills is 2nd and Edward Little 4th.

Top 5 matchups aren't super common, so to get them in consecutive days and in the same sport is unusual, to say the least.

If we look at the tourney odds, Oxford Hills has a pretty strong hold on the 1-seed, but Edward Little is live to go and grab it. They're probably going to need to win this game and the rematch on May 26th to do it.

The bigger question is if EL can hold off Lewiston for the 2 seed.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
