The Not-So-Great Ice Storm of 2026

You call this an ice storm?

The Not-So-Great Ice Storm of 2026

Last night wasn't a complete washout. But with a small schedule to begin with and the icy conditions, it wasn't a surprise to see the vast majority of the slate get postponed. I mean, it wasn't the Ice Storm of 1998, but it was pretty much the anniversary of it.

If you were in Maine in '98, you no doubt remember it. What I remember is we somehow didn't lose power--or got it back very quickly--and there was this sense that they were doing the 6pm news just for us.

This was nothing.

The biggest game that actually tipped off featured the high-flying Gardiner boys (16th in the state in scoring offense) and Poland (25th in offense).

This was close in the first half--Gardiner led by 1 at the half before going on a run in the third quarter behind Luke Whalen. He finished with 25. Nick and Jake Jamo combined for 45 for Poland in the losing effort.

The win moves Gardiner to 8-1 and gets them within range of Hermon for the 1 seed.

The Westbrook boys have had a pretty, pretty good school year so far, what with the whole state championship in football and everything.

Basketball season hasn't gone quite as well. They're 4-4, but the losses have come to Sanford, Windham, South Portland, and Cheverus. All on the road. If you had to pick 4 quality losses, you couldn't do much better than that.

They'll host Kennebunk, a team that's 6-2 against the 2nd easiest schedule in A South. It gets a lot harder. They have the 8th hardest schedule in the state the rest of the way.

Both teams are a long shot for a bye, but a home prelim is very much in play and a win today would go a long way toward securing that.

The Model thinks this should be a close one.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
