Southern Aroostook at the Buzzer?
Time to go frame-by-frame
Let's start in Dyer Brook, where Southern Aroostook is hosting Lee Academy in boys basketball. With a minute to go, Lee Academy has the ball with the score tied at 46. They work the clock down to about 18 seconds before calling a timeout just before a Lee Academy player puts in what appeared to be the go-ahead basket as I watched it on the Hudl stream. But, alas, they called time.
After the timeout, the Pandas clear out for their point guard, who drives and draws a foul with 6 seconds left. He misses both FTs, Southern Aroostook hauls down the rebound and calls time with 3 something left. I'd be more precise, but the Hudl stream is processing and I'm not sure there's going to be a replay. Update:

Southern Aroostook gets a good look from 3, but it's wide left. Kason Lawlor grabs the rebound and the put-back is good!
However...

I slowed it down to 1/4 speed before the live feed went away. The ball appears to still be on his fingertips when the clock goes to 0.0, but it's clear of his hand when the horn sounds.
I talked to a ref. Obviously there's no replay and this is as close as a call can get, so as the official, you do your best. To their credit, the three officials huddled before making the call. I thought it was good live. In a replay scenario, like in the Tourney, the baskets will all have the light around the backboard and the light is the definitive thing. In the absence of the light, the horn is the definitive end of the game. So the basket is good. He then reminded me of a scenario in 1992 where Camden beat the buzzer against Medomak Valley, but the horn wasn't synced correctly to the clock and didn't sound. Camden charged the floor, but since the horn hadn't sounded, the game wasn't over. Camden was assessed a technical and freshman Josh Nash hit 2 free throws to win it. Somehow, people still remember that one.
Now let's go to Cumberland, where Greely and Cape are tied at 30.
That's Greely's James Saxe with the dagger. Thanks to Sophie Cohen for the video.
In Bingham, Kirsten Bigelow dropped 30 to join Valley's 1,000 point club.
Congratulations!

With all the talk lately of parents being too involved in their kid's games, it's good to know that sometimes, parents can come to the rescue.
Congratulations to Sam Quintana, our MVP for the Brunswick at Gardiner Girls' basketball game last night. Sam got the Most Valuable Parent Award for this play last night. Munzing Media 100% advocates for this type of parental involvement with your team! pic.twitter.com/2SinABkga5

Christmas is around the corner, which can only mean one thing: it's almost time for Christmas Tournaments!
Varsity Maine is hosting their event again at the Expo.

Thanks to Lee Horton for the assist.
And there's the Capitol City event at the Augusta Civic Center, schedule courtesy of Mike Mandell.

There's a lot of good options here. I'm sure there's other events. Send them along or put them in the comments and I'll add them to a future newsletter.
Cooper had his 23rd straight double-digit scoring output.
This one on Cade was particularly nice.

Cooper had his 4 double-double as the Mavs beat the Pistons in OT. He was +16 with 0 turnovers.

The early word from people "in the know" was that Sanford was one of teams to watch in A South. They were the 5 seed in AA South last year and lost to Bonny Eagle in the quarterfinals, but they have a new coach: John Morgan, by way of Noble, and find themselves at 4-0 with a statement win over Windham.
They're up to 15th in the Power Rankings (they started at #47) and lead Class A in scoring and are second in %Perfect at 86.13%.
They'll host a Scarborough team that's 3-1 with a convincing win over Cheverus and has a 4 point loss at Thornton Academy.
These games mean a lot more in the new Class A

The Model picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
