S North
We start S North in style
Yesterday, the S North tournament started without a hitch and with it, the live stats from all three venues.

They'll be going today in Augusta and I should have leaderboards up pretty soon, assuming the new system I've got set up works without any issues.
At the end of January, Erskine made a statement with a 65-42 win over Cony (in the Game of the Day). Last night, Cony got their revenge. The Rams led early before Erskine used a 22-9 run to take a lead into the locker room. But Cony rallied in the second half behind big games from Kya Douin game (22 & 9) and Gabby Vachon (14 & 11) to punch their ticket to Bangor (that still sounds weird) and a date with rival Gardiner.
Mike Mandell was there.

As part of his tourney history project, Jay Baines has started tracking how many years in a row each team has made it to a neutral tournament floor. The open tournament years, the AA years where everyone got in, and the weirdness that was 2021 make it tricky so he's using the neutral floor as the dividing line. Anyway, it'll be no surprise that the Falmouth boys were tied for the second-longest streak in the state among boys programs with 13 (Valley will get their 42nd in a row today). That streak was on the line last night in a prelim against Portland. The Bulldogs raced out to a 20-2 lead, but Falmouth would rally. They got as close as 6 before Portland put them away to advance to the quarterfinals against South Portland. The loss ends Falmouth's streak.
4th and 5th on the list were Greely (12) and Southern Aroostook (11), who both missed the tourney entirely this year. Big year for upheaval on the list.
I'm going to go ahead and assume nothing will prevent the teams on this list from checking the 2026 box, so here's the new leaderboard:
Boys
1. Valley – 42
2. Spruce Mountain – 14
3. Medomak Valley – 11
3. Schenck – 11
5. Thornton Academy – 10
5. York – 10
You'd think these numbers should be higher, but it's just so easy to have an off year where you lose a dumb prelim or something. I know Medomak lost a home prelim to Ellsworth or else they'd be in the 20s. We'll see if Gorham can win their prelim and stay on the girls leaderboard.
Elsewhere
Adam Fitzgerald scored 20 as Scarborough punched their ticket to the quarterfinals with a win over Kennebunk. Chris Thompson had 22 in the losing effort...Mari Ambila and Emily Groves each had 17 points in Freeport's win over Yarmouth in the B South 8/9 prelim...Dirigo had 4 players in double figures as they took care of Traip....the Ashland girls pitched a 2nd quarter shutout to pull away from Deer Isle-Stonington...Koben Robinson had 19 points and 5 steals as Jonesport-Beals blew out Deer Isle-Stonington...Grayson Harkins had 21 and Isaiah Lawrence's double-double got Shead a win over Washburn in the 4/5 quarterfinal...Mia Mills had 26 points and 9 boards as Jonesport-Beals pulled away from Shead late.

With our first tourney results, we have our first update of the Gold Ball Odds.

I try to get the Tourney Guides done every year before the prelims kick off, but I was a little late this year. The whole S Quarters starting early threw off my timing, but they're all ready to go now. Fingers crossed there's no issues with them.

Falmouth has a new football coach with big shoes to fill.
Brandon Dorsett will be the next head coach of the Navigators varsity football program. A familiar face in the community, he brings strong playing and coaching experience and will lead the team into the 2026 season. pic.twitter.com/lAx8FIxydn

Will the real Bonny Eagle please stand up?
The Bonny Eagle boys have been all over the place this year. They went 10-8 and lost to the 11 seed Falmouth and 8 seeded Scarborough, but also beat Windham. They're going to try and make a run at the quarterfinals as the 11 seed in a deep A South.
They'll head to Westbrook to face the stingiest scoring defense in all of class A. Westbrook is 13-5, but it's a weird schedule. They played the 3rd hardest schedule in the state in the first half and started 5-4, then went 8-1 down the stretch against a considerably easier slate.

The bottom of A South is quite soft.
Still, Westbrook closed strong and Bonny Eagle didn't, except they beat Windham on January 27th and the team that beat Windham is in there somewhere. But also, the team that lost to Falmouth and Portland is in there.
Maybe the team that beat Windham shows up. And if they do, Westbrook has that football title to fall back on.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
