Fort Kent Wins it at the Line
Plus a 1,000 point scorer
It was a light schedule last night, but that doesn't mean it was without drama.
Let's go to Fort Kent, where junior Aden Jeffers is only a couple of points from 1,000. It didn't take long.

Jeffers has been putting up pretty big numbers for a while now, so it was no surprise to see him hit the milestone in his junior year.
But there was still a game to play, a game the Model had Madawaska favored by 1.2 points.
Let's go to the final seconds with the game tied at 59. Fort Kent ball. You can watch the clip on NFHS (no subscription necessary):

That's Tobias Naranja with the shot attempt and more (For Your Consideration in Best Actor in a Supporting Role).
If you go frame-by-frame (because obviously I went frame-by-frame), the Madawaska defender gets the ball and then continues into Naranja and appears to make contact, just not nearly as much contact as it looks like in real time.

He gets ball in the first frame and then watch his feet. He moves diagonally forward to inside the 3-point line and isn't in Naranja's landing area.

If you go to the WHOU broadcast and slow it down, the Madawaska defender does, in fact, avoid the body contact that he appears to make from the first angle, but he catches the elbow and Naranja does a great job of selling it. A tough break for Madawaska.

Naranja hit all three free throws and Fort Kent escaped with a 62-59 win.

One of the fun additions to this season with the reclassification has been the addition of the former AA schools into the drama and chaos of regular season heal points. Suddenly a bunch of large schools who were guaranteed playoff berths are fighting for more than just seeding.
Two teams that don't need to worry about their playoff viability are Windham and Scarborough. Both teams project as in the playoffs, but there's a wide range of seeding possibilities. With 11 teams making the tourney, the top 5 will get a bye into the quarterfinals.

As for the game itself, Windham's been on a roll. The Eagles have won 6 straight, including a convincing win over South Portland last week and have the 8th highest scoring offense in the state. Plus, with every Windham game I've seen, you get the full A.J. Moody Experience.
Scarborough's 5-2 and coming off a win over Portland where Carter Ryan came off the bench to hit 9 3's. They're probably going to need a couple of those to knock off the champs.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
