Double Upsets!

2 Thursday night games under the lights. 2 upsets.

Double Upsets!

Thursday night football got a little nuts last night as GNG and Marshwood both won as 8+ point underdogs, GNG over previously unbeaten Camden and Marshwood over Falmouth. The win for GNG is particularly big as they entered the game in a dogfight for a playoff spot.

The top 4 get in and the win helps close that gap between them and Lake Region, for sure. I don't think it quite gets them there (116 vs 113.3 in Crabtree weekly), but with the way Crabtree works, that'll all change with the games today and Saturday so there's really no point in trying to recalculate it.

We'll definitely get into it in the Week 6 Overreactions Podcast.

This week's Overreaction podcast features Haley Jones of the Sun Journal. Haley majored in Diplomacy and World Affairs at Occidental College in Los Angeles, so naturally she became a sportswriter in Maine.

I like to coordinate the Overreactions pod with a media member who covered an interesting game over the weekend and Haley got one of the best game in the state in Wells' last second victory over Leavitt. She wrote a great gamer.

We talked about that, the never-ending drama that is Class C, Bonny Eagle's defense, and the potential upcoming fight with Mike Mandell over who gets to cover the Gardiner/Cony game in Week 8.

Check it out on this week's podcast, brought to you by Vertical Raise!

As always, it helps if you leave a 5-star review, because algorithms are dumb.

That's one podcast.

Later this morning, the next episode should be up--a look inside the Vote Dexter! campaign with Dexter AD Adam Gudroe. That'll drop probably around 11am, so make sure you subscribe so you'll get it when it comes out.

And Cooper got off to a good start in his preseason debut.

Cooper Flagg made his first appearance in a (non-summer league) NBA jersey on Monday, when his Dallas Mavericks annihilated the shorthanded Oklahoma City Thunder, 106-89.

Game of the Week

It's kind of slim pickings this weekend. There's only 4 games with a Stax Index over 75 and 3 of them are on Saturday.

The highest is--surprise, surprise--in Class C, where Wells will head up the coast to take on Greely on their fancy new turf. Greely is sitting 2nd in Class C and Wells is currently in 4th in Crabtree Classic.

But it's not that hard to see why this could be a good game. Greely is unbeaten and has looked really good all year, but they juuuust barely got by Leavitt at home. Wells has 2 tough losses and just beat Leavitt at home, so based solely on the common opponent, it should be a good game. Add the seeding implications and it's even better.

The Model likes Greely by 2.5.

Speaking of Leavitt, they're in one of the other games to watch this weekend, as they'll host unbeaten Gardiner on Saturday (second best Stax Index: 82.4). The other 2? Lake @ OOB and Kennebunk @ Westbrook.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
