Double Cross-Class

Hall-Dale splits with Valley

Double Cross-Class

Let's start with an apology. This is later than normal. Sorry. Every so often I think, "what if I got the Heal Points updated and then instead of writing the newsletter and getting it done by 1-2am, I went to bed early and did it in the morning?" Well I tried that and slept for 12 hours.

In the Game of the Day, Monmouth rallied down 13 at the end of three quarters to get it to within 2 in the final minute, but couldn't finish the job and fell 48-45 to Mount Abram.

In other C South action, Hall-Dale hosted Valley for an unusual meeting between teams two classes apart (Hall-Dale in C and Valley in S). It doesn't happen a lot. Noble used to play Traip, back in the pre-COVID, pre-Jamier Rose days. I'd like to see more of it. Of course, Valley isn't your usual under 100 enrollment school. The girls absolutely smoked Hall-Dale.

Hall-Dale built leads in this one, but Valley wouldn't go away. The Cavaliers went on runs, but Hall-Dale answered every one of them. They shot 18-22 from the line (9-10 in the fourth quarter) to close it out.

Karter Eldridge led the Bulldogs with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Fisher Tewksbury had 15 & 14 for Valley.

Mike Mandell was there.

The Class C Bulldogs withstand multiple surges from the Class S Cavaliers to claim a nonconference victory.

Bangor Christian's Jesse Booker joined the 1,000 point club last night.

Here's a good clip.

Hopefully it was early in the game, because the Facebook comments are coming for this final score.

It's no surprise who's hyped up for the National Championship game.

New Hampshire, known in these parts for being lame, has really outdone themselves with a new law that seems like it's trying to do a good thing, but it horribly thought out.

A new parental right law took effect this summer.

The law states that parental consent of each student is required even in the cases of theater, drama, and performing arts recordings of rehearsals or performances and music and band recordings of ensemble practices or concerts.

That's...not great, but you can see the rationale behind it, kind of. Most schools have a system in place for this already where parents can opt out and there's good reasons to do this--abusive parents, custody battles, etc. But the new law applies a blanket protection to everyone, which is probably overkill.

What it doesn't make clear is how this applies to sporting events. And let's be honest, there's a lot more eyes on a sporting event than on a dance recital. Plus the dynamic is different. You don't see the audience in a dance recital in the way you do at a sporting event.

So people in New Hampshire are hesitant to film games, because no one wants to get sued.

Nick Lavallee, who is the media coordinator for the town of Merrimack and manages their local cable station, says he will continue to broadcast high school sports games, even without the full consent of parents. Lavallee argues that athletic games are public events outside of the classroom.

He's right. They're very much public, newsworthy events. But I'm guessing Lavallee doesn't have the budget for a lawsuit if some Karen gets upset.

We get this here some whenever there's a controversial video and a few people start begging that a video gets taken down because THINK OF THE CHILDREN (even though it's usually a parent who's the issue...so I guess think of the children who have to watch their parents act like idiots?)

The law needs to be clarified and I would imagine it would. Is New Hampshire going to go through their basketball playoffs with no video coverage? Can you imagine? It definitely doesn't need to come here. Leave that idea at the border.

Some New Hampshire towns pause school sports broadcasts amid confusion over new law
The New Hampshire Department of Education warned school districts that any audio or video recordings without written consent from parents is in violation of a recently passed law.

Last time we saw the Caribou boys, they were on the wrong side of a 56-42 score against Presque Isle, a game in which they were favored by 20 points and I pointed out in the newsletter that the only other team since Christmas to lose a game in which they were favored by 19 or more was Caribou when they lost to Foxcroft on December 30.

Well look who they're playing today. The schedule works in mysterious ways.

So Caribou has the 12th highest scoring offense in the state. They're the defending B champs. And they have a %Perfect of 70.85% against the Top 50, which is 7th best in the state (PI is not in the top 50).

As for Foxcroft, the story is defense. They've got the best defense in C North (9th in the state). They lead C North in %Perfect overall and are second against the Top 50.

WHOU will have this one.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
