Rivalry Doubleheader

It was a quiet, mostly snowy night around the (Maine Principal's) Association, but still we got some games in.

The big story comes from Ellsworth, where junior Grace Jaffray was 12 points away from 1,000.

And here you go.

Ellsworth rolled to an easy win.

A surprising score showed up on the Scoreboard last night, as the Widsom girls beat Hodgdon 54-31. As you might guess, Anna Oliver wasn't available for the Hawks, and Paige Fitzpatrick was a late scratch with a knee injury.

The essential Aroostook County Hoops has the full story.

Lilly Roy had 32 for the Pioneers.

Locked in a tight battle with Falmouth, the Windham girls went on a 13-0 to blow the game open, which is a lot when the final score is 38-30.

Cooper Flagg and Montverde won by 87 yesterday, so they should expect a call from the MPA sometime over the weekend, unless the opposing team just shook it off and went on with their lives. .

Falmouth's football coach has resigned.

Falmouth High football coach resigns in wake of players’ petition
John Fitzsimmons had resisted pressure from parents, but after players asked the school board to replace him, he said ‘it wasn’t fair for them or for me to stay.’

Based on some things I've already seen, I'm sure the discourse on this will be nuanced and not toxic at all. 🙄

Just a friendly reminder that these are kids.

A couple of days after Joel Embiid became the 9th player in NBA history to score 70, Luka went and scored 73.

Glad I saved this from yesterday.

I think the consensus is that the Game of the Day would be the Oceanside @ Medomak Valley boys game. It makes sense. Two of the top teams in B South. Rivals. All of the recent drama online.

But that's not the Game of the Day.

Because the Game of the Day is the Oceanside @ Medomak Valley girls.

A boys/girls matchup has never gotten the top 2 spots in the Stax Index. And it's a doubleheader. AND there's a cancer bump.

I'm pretty sure this will sell out.

Let's start with the boys.

We all know what's going on with Oceanside. They survived a scare from Lincoln Academy after the drama caused by an Instagram account. Their offense has come crashing down all the way to 92.5 points a game. Obviously that's the top number in the state.

Their offense is explosive and can overwhelm a good team, much less a team that shouldn't be on their schedule.

In the first matchup, Medomak led at the half, but Oceanside used one of their scoring burst to open up a lead in the 3rd quarter and win 71-54. But that was all the way back on December 15th. We were all so young.

Oceanside has locked up the 1 seed. Medomak and York are essentially in a coin flip for the 2 seed. There's some outlier situations where Medomak could get to 1 or fall to 4, but they're comfortably in the 2-3 range. They've won 11 straight.

The series stands at 14-12 Medomak Valley. Oceanside has won 5 straight. Prior to that, Medomak had won 5 straight.

As for the girls...

Things looked dim in Waldoboro after the Panthers started 1-2 under new coach Lindsay Vinal. Since then, they've won 10 of their last 11, with the lone loss coming to Yarmouth in a game where they squandered an early 8-0 lead.

Other than that, only 1 team has gotten within 20 points of them, a 40-27 win at Leavitt. They'll almost definitely be the 2 seed for the first time in program history. It's the first time they been a top 2 seed since they were the 1 seed in the 77-78 season.

Oceanside, of course, is unbeaten and only one team had stayed within 20 of them. That team? Medomak Valley lost by 8 in their 1-2 start.

Can the Panthers make a statement against Bailey Breen and the Mariners? Oceanside has won 12 straight in the series.

These teams have won a combined 44 straight games.

LCTV will stream both of these games on YouTube.

And I will be there with LIVE Stats.
