4 Games

It was a really light slate of games last night. Only 4 games tipped off (plus that great Celtics win), thanks to a small schedule and a bunch of postponements.

In the Game of the Day, the Lawrence girls found themselves down 14-5 in the first quarter to Hampden, but the defending champs fought back. They got within 1 at the half and then used a big 3rd quarter to break the game open, coasting to a 12-point win.

Lawrence moves to 9-0 and finally into first place in A North.

In Jay, Spruce Mountain bounced back on the second night of a back-to-back with a 9-point win over Cony. Avery Bessey's 12 points led 4 Phoenix in double figures.

We're still looking for scores from a couple of schools (cough Deer Isle cough) that are very bad at reporting scores. So I want to encourage you to put scores in the scoreboard and ask you to tell the people you know at other schools to get it together. Also, some of these schools are in AA, so don't assume it's a class D problem, because I promise you it is not.

ALSO: tell your friends about this site. We could use more subscribers and every subscriber further justifies the amount of time I spend looking for scores on random Facebook pages or YouTube streams that may or may not be working.

It's...a lot

Thomas Curtis is back with a look at the 3 big AA games from earlier this week, including his beloved Gorham losing to Cheverus.

It's really easy to get caught up in the players, but if you go to games at the same school enough times, you get a sense of the other people there. Maybe it's the concession volunteers or the guy taking tickets or the cops making sure nothing goes wrong or the PA announcer.

They're all essential, like Edward Little's Bim Gibson, who just did his 500th game.

Bim Gibson celebrates 500th game announcing Red Eddies basketball
Longtime Edward Little High School sports announcer Bim Gibson celebrated his 500th game Tuesday night when the Red Eddies faced Scarborough High School. Even though he’ll be retiring as a teacher in the spring, he plans on extending his 25-year tenure as announcer for the foreseeable future.

I know a lot of people don't like Joe Mazzulla (I've got money on him as Coach of the Year at +750), but this is some great trolling/not getting fined for criticizing the officials.

After the last 2 minute report of a controversial loss tried to tell people it was ok to hit people in the head, he responded with this:

A+. No notes.

We're heading to B South girls, where Wells hosts York.

Wells is 7-3, coming off a loss at Fryeburg.

In yesterday's Tourney Odds (prior to Spruce's win), Wells projected as the 4 seed in B South, just ahead of York, so there's a strong likelihood this is a preview of a quarterfinal matchup at the Expo.

But they'll also play again, so hopefully one of them moves off these seeds.

The Model's predictions for today's games are after the jump.
